Troubleshooting: My microphone isn’t working.

*Don’t use a laptop’s built in microphone, use a headset.

*Have you activated the microphone by clicking the microphone button located in the bottom left corner? Users are encouraged to disable the microphone when not speaking to avoid transferring background noise.

*Is your microphone properly connected to your computer? After you re-connect your microphone to the computer, try to exist the Live Classroom and then re-enter.

*Is your microphone volume set at a reasonable level?

*Ensure that your headset’s mute button is not on.

*Ensure that your headset is properly plugged into your computer.

*Try using a different web browser.

It is recommended that you either use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your browser. If you are experiencing microphone problems with one of these browsers, try using the opposite browser. It is not recommended to use Internet Explorer. Mac users should try using Chrome or Firefox if you experience microphone problems with Safari.

*If you are using Live Classroom, try the following (also see below images for reference):

*Make sure you give permission to Adobe Flash, and if you are using Chrome, also make sure you give permission to Chrome and allow the website access to your microphone.

*Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date (which drivers you need depends on your computer setup), but Realtek drivers are used by many PCs, and may be what you need to use.

*Ensure that your computer has the latest operating system updates, and that you install optional updates as well (how to install the latest updates varies depending on your operating system - Windows users may find this FAQ page by Microsoft to be helpful, and Mac users may find this FAQ page to be helpful.

3.Click the "Recording" tab, then right click on the microphone that is being used and go to properties.

4. Go to the "Levels" tab and make sure the mic volume is set to a high enough level, and also that it
isn't muted (the mute/unmute button is to the right of the volume number).

1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner and choose “System Preferences.”

Troubleshooting: Why can't I hear other user(s)?

*Is your speaker unmuted and set at an audible volume level?

*Are your headphones properly connected to your computer? After you re-connect your headphones, you should restart your web browser, then re-enter the Live Classroom session.

If you’ve done all of the above but still cannot be heard, please contact us at flagship@hunter.cuny.edu.

*Instead of using Wifi to connect to the internet, use a wired connection.

*Ensure that other members of your household aren’t doing bandwidth intensive things like streaming YouTube/Netflix, playing online games, etc.

*Try using other audio/video conferencing software like Skype to test your connection - if you experience problems with that as well, you may be experiencing a temporary internet issue, or it is possible your internet connection is not fast enough to conduct audio/video conferences.

*If your internet connection issues persist after trying the above suggestions, you should contact your internet service provider (ISP).
